En Mientras quede agua, Myr Olivares propone una identidad reticular, más amplia que la antropocéntrica, la de géneros binarios, la sociológica. Desde esa reticular del "yo" y desde la tinta anfibia que derrama, Myr Olivares escribe poesía descolonial, que se enraiza en el territorio de su cuerpo y de su isla para proponer otro tipo de libertad desde una poética que mira toda la vida como valiosa y se hermana con ella.
Today we are living a climate apocalypse and the increasing precariousness of the ecosystem composed of transgender communities. The U.S. government denies and attempts to erase the existence of gender non-conforming people, while settler colonialism turns the beaches and mangroves of Puerto Rico into a sandbox for tourists and the ultra-rich. In this scenario, poetic language does not offer us solutions, but rather its shinny scales. For Olivares, the act of naming(oneself), begins as a rearticulation of embellishment, no longer a decorative gesture, but now aesthetic-political potential.
